Anything I put before my God is an idol

Yesterday, I posted a song that was given to me by someone who wanted me to listen to it.  "Clear the Stage" is by Jimmy Needham.  Well, I woke up this morning and that song was on my ipod to wake me up.  I got up and did my daily bible reading and it was from Exodus 32 & 33.  This passage is after Moses has been getting the commandments of the Lord.  He has been gone for some time and the God's people were asking Aaron to do something.  Aaron asked for the people to give him their gold and he crafted an idol for them to worship.

What is interesting is that yesterday my pastor spoke from Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."  He was explaining that "hunger and thirst" is like a person who is "starved."  Starved for God.  Wanting only Him and seeking Him.

I love how God will allow different things to bring light to areas of our lives that we need to surrender to Him.  Sometimes He can clean house as Jesus did the Temple, but sometimes He cleans just by bringing things together.  The message, the song, and the bible reading pointed there are some areas that I have allowed for idols to get in the way.   I surrendered these areas to Him and know it's a day to day (sometimes moment to moment) surrender.  I'm thankful that He forgives and continues to pursue us on our daily journey.

Clear the Stage

This song was brought to me from a lady at my church. I hadn't had a chance to listen to it until on the way home from this evening's church.  This is a powerful song.  I love the line "worship is more than a song."  I think in this day in age we think of worship being the music being sung before the message, but worship is living our life for the glory of Christ.  In all that we do.  This song touched my heart and helped me to check my own life.

Clear the stage and set the sound and lights ablaze
If that's the measure you must take to crush the idols
Jerk the pews and all the decorations too
Until the congregations few, then have revival
Tell your friends that this is where the party ends
Until you're broken for your sins, you can't be social
Then seek the Lord and wait for what He has in store
And know that great is your reward so just be hopeful

Cause you can sing all you want to
Yes, you can sing all you want to
You can sing all you want to
And still get it wrong
Worship is more than a song

Take a break from all the plans that you have made
And sit at home alone and wait for God to whisper
Beg Him please to open up His mouth and speak
And pray for real upon your knees until they blister
Shine the light on every corner of your life
Until the pride and lust and lies are in the open
Then read the Word and put to test the things you've heard
Until your heart and soul are stirred and rocked and broken

Cause you can sing all you want to
Yes, you can sing all you want to
You can sing all you want to
And still get it wrong; worship is more than a song
We must not worship something that's not even worth it
Clear the stage, make some space for the One who deserves it

Anything I put before God is an idol
Anything I want, with all my heart is an idol
Anything I can't stop thinking of is an idol
Anything that I give all my love is an idol

Cause I can sing all I want to
Yes, I can sing all I want to
And we can sing all we want to
We can sing all we want to
We can sing all we want to
And still get it wrong
Worship is more than a song

Clear the stage and set the sound and lights ablaze
If that's the measure you must take to crush the idols
I am thankful to God for allowing His servants to write powerful lyrics. I know we have the Bible still, but sometimes hearing a song in the right moment points something out in my life - especially if I've heard sermons that have the same thought or message.

Super bowl!

I am not really a football fan, but I am enjoying the Superbowl tonight. I began watching it after half time and saw where the 49ers made a few touchdowns to bring this game closer than it was before half time.  As I watch this game, I keep yelling "stone wall" when the 49ers are on defense.  I want them to block the Ravens.  Not that I have anything against the Ravens.

I am not a fan of the commercials like in the past.  This year I haven't liked any that I have seen.  Although I didn't start watching until after the half time :)

I have noticed that I have seen MORE helmets fall off their heads than any other game I have watched.  I don't know why they aren't strapping the helmet on their heads...after all they are there to protect their heads from damage.  Crazy boys! Need to strap them on!

While I have been watching the game, I have been working on VBS stuff too!  I have gotten several things printed for me to begin copying, but still have to get a few things before I get the copies started.

A few more minutes and we will know who wins the game! Until next time :)
